Cowgirl

Saturday we ventured north into Georgia horse country for Danielle's 4th birthday party. Didn't know there was Georgia horse country? We didn't either. But it was pretty up there!

We had such a great time!! Happy Birthday Miss Danielle!!

Grace rode a pretend pony on the playground.

Met a real live pony!!

Painted a horse, went on a hayride, enjoyed a wonderful birthday picnic with friends!

But the best part..... the beautiful 'dog dog' named Sugar.

Can you see her beaming?

Obsession

1 year, 1 month and 19 days

That is how many days we made it through daycare without the dreaded bite. :(

I tried to get a picture, but this is the best I could get without severe attitude.

I cried.

I guess there is a really good reason why they only tell you "a friend" did it. Because I'm already trying to match those teeth marks up with her little "friends" mouths in my head.

I guess the good news is my child isn't a biter....yet.

17 months + 1 week

Just wanted to jot down a few things about Grace this month.....just in case I'm wondering about it later, and want to remember......

Bottom 2 molars are in, and the top two have broken through. Teething must not really bother Grace THAT much. We've hardly noticed any issues that was can tie back to it. We have fussiness, crankiness, but can't really pinpoint it as teeth related. So anyway, this makes 10 teeth completely in, working on 2. Which we "try" to brush twice a day, but really equates to quite the wrestling match. Usually ends up in Grace just sucking on the tooth brush.

On some kind of weird fruit strike. Most days, she comes home from school with her little sheet and it says she didn't eat any of her fruit. Loves banana's though, and has one every day.

Very busy. Does not sit still for long. Remind me again why we encouraged this? Oh, because pediatricians like to scare you.

Gives great hugs and kisses now. She wraps her arms around your neck and squeezes. And puckers up for kisses a lot.

Has 5, maybe 6 signs. More, please, thank you, all done, milk, and working on 'i love you'. There are differing opinions about whether or not sign language inhibits or encourages verbal language. Grace is pretty verbal. And big multi- syllable words. Her pronunciation isn't 100% but she talks a lot. Wonder where she gets that from?

Working on silverware. She usually gives up half way in though and just uses her hands. Practicing spoon work with applesauce and yogurt. This also helps get additional fruit in, since weird fruit strike kicked in..... the fork is trickier to master.

Transitioned from saying Da Da to Daddy. But I'm still the Mama.

Will keep a hat on her head. Diva! This will probably become my nightmare in the teenage years.

Starting to display some tantrum like issues. Trying to do a lot of redirection. But for example, she got really upset a few weeks ago that the pen attached to her magna doodle would not come off. Very upset about this. And we just had to let her cry about it. Nothing else worked. And she's testing us at dinner time by throwing her food, utensils, plate and/or cup. If she purposefully throws it, she's done. We don't give it back. No matter how much she yells about it. And she yells about it. Believe me.

She can go down the stairs by herself backwards on her belly, but usually requires being picked up. But she's actually very good so far (knock on wood) about not getting to close to the top of the stairs. Good thing, because we haven't rigged up a gate for them yet.

Furrows her brow.

We go back July 16th for her 18 month appointment. Can't wait to see her stats. She has really grown a lot recently!! I wish I had some better pictures to share, but it is so hard to get her to stand still, look at you and/or smile these days.

Father's Day

We had a pretty busy day today for Father's Day!

Grace and I were up early-ish and let Daddy sleep in. We sat and drank our milk, watched a little Elmo, made coffee, and started thinking about making waffles with our new fabulous waffle maker.

Once Daddy got up, kicked it into high gear, made waffles, and got ready for church. Matt had to play two masses today. We actually went to the 10:30 mass for a change and got reacquainted with our favorite babysitter who is back from an intern stint at Disney. Woo hoo! Adult night out, coming soon!!!

For those who know my love for Gone with the Wind, I was accompanied by Miss Bonnie Blue Butler to church today!

She was mildly well behaved - Matt spent the sermon with her in the chapel. I tried to do a little photo shoot with her this evening, but most of the pictures looked like this:

She does not stop moving.....except......

We played in the sprinkler this afternoon, but we're not sure Grace was a big fan. Her legs were completely frozen while she was standing in the grass - she would not move - how random is that?!

So since she was suited and lubed up, we went up to the pool for a little while before dinner.

Dinner was Baked Fried Chicken (ummm, yummmm - click the link for the post over on the food blog), creamed corn, and mashed potatoes.

And Coconut Cream Pie for dessert.

Matt - Thank you for being such a wonderful Daddy!

Cousins

Grace's Houston Alley cousins road tripped it into Atlanta Tuesday night, and spent the day today with us. Grace had such a good time playing with her big cousins, Josh and Megan.

Thanks for making us part of your journey north! Be careful driving!!

Birthday Party Beauty

I've been saving this little dress for a birthday party, and we went to Cruz's first birthday on Saturday. Perfect. It came with a hat, and before we left, I tried it on, thinking Grace wouldn't keep it on at all. Wrong. She wore it the whole party, until I took it off for her, because I thought maybe her poor head might be sweating.

But when we got home, the hat was back on again!

Pure Sass!

Some times I don't think she can get any cuter.......

Neat Freak Tidbit

Matt and I were watching the news this evening, Grace was on the floor flipping through the latest Martha Stewart Living magazine searching for a pie recipe, when one of those subscription cards fell out. She picked it up, stood up, walked into the kitchen and threw it away..... she's her father's daughter, what can I say?

In other news, she came home in her back-up bubble from school today because she was less then neat with her lunch today!

Sloppy Joes

Started out good, with silverware!

More effective to use your hands, after all.

An after dinner treat - you just have to whisper the word Popsicle and the girl is standing by the freezer waiting for you.
