Pretty girl

I thought everyone might be tired of the flood drama (we are) and enjoy a new picture of Grace. We went to Alabama on Saturday to visit the Gordon's. We haven't seen Kate in forever, and we needed to check out their new digs. Nice job guys! Sorry for any residual residue left by Miss Grace. And your grass! I'm sorry I drove on it.

But anyway, the Hall's were there as well, and Melissa took this picture. Nice job, Martha. Add another hobby to your resume. If you have room.

The Great Flood 2009 Update

There's a sink hole in our neighborhood, and I didn't realize how bad it was until I watched this video!!

Westchester Sinkhole 2009

We're fine. The basement is almost dry. We're so thankful this was not us!! It's just one street over though.

The Great Flood of 2009

So this is the radar around 1:15pm this afternoon. Around that time, I watched the rain gauge jump up 4 inches in 30-40 minutes. This is I-85 sometime this afternoon.
And I don't have any pictures, but there is a smidge of water in our basement. We sucked most of it up with the Wet Vac and we're running the dehumidifier. But I guess what can you expect when you get 22 inches of rain within 6 days? Next round should start in the next few hours....

Oh La La

Aunt Katie brought Grace this outfit from London. The brand is Tartine et Chocolat and très fancy pants (i.e., not suitable attire for "school").

She was the prettiest baby in the church nursery today, but not the happiest.

She's hopefully having an attitude adjustment with Belgium Bunny in bed right now.

Resemblance?

Here are some baby pictures of me:

You don't see it? Me either. All I ever wanted was a healthy blue eyed, blond haired baby anyway. :)

Murphy's Law

Ok, so strike that on the "no pulling up" thing below....

8 Months Old!

No check-up this month, so no stats. But she is starting to get very, very heavy to carry. I can't wait to see what my arms look like this time next year.

Eight things about Grace this month!

1. We have a roller! What, you say? Thought she did that months ago? Well...yes, she did. Maybe 3-5 times. And that was that. Tummy to back. Last week, twice at 6am we were awoken to extreme wailing. Someone had rolled from her back to her tummy and needed to be rescued! Hopefully that's the end of that.

2. We're working on finger foods. We've been giving her bits and pieces of fruit, esp. peaches and bananas. Why are so many things you try to give a baby to pick up slippery? I don't know who gets more frustrated first, but I usually end up feeding her the fruit by hand. I'm still looking for cookie/cracker oat flour alternatives that she can hold and suck/gum/gnaw on, so if you have any suggestions, let me know. Mom found something yesterday that I'm going to check out.... Cookies. I am also trying to start setting aside some of our dinner for Grace. Last night she had acorn squash. She wasn't impressed.

3. Quickly outgrowing clothes labeled 6 months, but still wearing brands that are sized 6-12 months or 9 months. We've started to acquire pieces for her fall/winter wardrobe and looking for a nice, relatively inexpensive winter coat.

4. No teeth yet. And the drooling has subsided.

5. Movement? What movement? Grace continues to be content sitting in one spot. If we put her toys out of her reach, she moves on to something else or if it's on her mat, she'll pull her mat towards her to get her toy. Cheeky monkey! She will, however, stand unassisted quite well, meaning we stand her up, and she stays. She doesn't pull up. That would require too much effort.

6. It's hard to tell in the pictures, but her hair is coming in thicker. And there have been little curls spotted at the back of her neck.

7. She gives kisses. Wet, sloppy, open mouth kisses. We love them.

8. When she gets REALLY excited, she puts her arms and legs straight out in front of her, very rigid with tiny shakes. We also gets lots of arm flapping and squealing. And if you laugh at her, she'll mimic you.

And as you can tell, loves having her picture taken.

We can't believe she's 8 months old already. Time flies when you're having fun!

Pantaloons

I was so inspired by Natalie's gorgeous UGA game day outfit made by her very crafty Martha Stewart wanna-be Mama, Melissa.... I decided to try to make my own FSU outfit for Grace. I found this very cute McCalls pattern for a wrap around dress/top with cute pantaloons.

I don't know where we (my Mom and I) went wrong, but the inseam is completely wrong. They are LOW RIDERS. Her diaper completely hangs out. And I don't think it is salvageable at all.

Mom, can you get me a yard more of the FSU fabric so I can just try plain 'ole bloomers?

*Sigh*

There is still hope for the dress. But Martha junior will probably have to give me a quick lesson in ruffles. Stay tuned.....

Back from the beach!

Grace had a wonderful trip to Amelia Island for Labor Day. On the way down, we made a quick stop in Savannah for the big Reveal and for the BFF's to visit.

Grace also got to meet her puppy, Beauregard (that lives at Granny's house), go to the beach, eat lots of new foods, meet her cousin Louie, and visit with her Granny and Grandpa.

Grace LOVED the beach. We set her down for a minute to set up her little cabana (thanks Don and Jen) and next thing we know, she's digging happily in the sand. We had fears that she would be THAT baby who hates sand.

[Short video edited because I really didn't want to be in the video!]

We spent a lot of time sitting at the edge of the water and she really enjoyed the waves coming in and playing with the sand and shells. And she really didn't try to eat it - another thing we feared.

Day two at the beach, Grace actually took a nap. We were shocked!

Great Granny Alley DeAngelis - Do you recognize the hat? I think you (or a friend made this hat for me!) Worked perfect on Grace to keep her little bald head from burning!

Here's a link to all of the pictures from the weekend - unfortunately, I forgot to charge my battery before we went, so I didn't get very many: Beach Trip 2009

Starvin' Marvin

More as a reminder to myself then anything, I wanted to jot down Grace's recent appetite. She is on 4 8oz bottles a day now. And the past two days she is sucking down 99% of those, close to 30 oz. I'm wondering if we're experiencing a growth spurt or something. Weeks previous she was MAYBE getting 22 oz a day. Additionally, she is finishing all three meals, and has mastered the baby Cheetos (Gerber's lil' Crunchie snacks).

And because I can't post without a picture, here she is with a Mum Mum (baby rice cake). I had to put it in her mouth - she hadn't figured out yet that she can eat solid things put in her mouth - she knows now!! But I'm not sure she's much of a fan.....
