Because I've been slacking on the blogging lately, I started thinking about all of the random things I wanted to jot down about Grace these days, and then looked at the calendar and saw we have a big milestone this month.
TWO MONTHS TILL SHE'S TWO! Time is zipping by.
Speaking of two, I'll get right to my list, of which I'll try to give you 22 things about Grace, so be prepared for a long list....
1. If you ask Grace how old she is, she'll tell you 2. I try to tell her she needs to slow down a bit and most ladies decrease their age, but she's not having any of that yet.
2. Colors. She is getting really good at recognizing and naming her colors.
3. Music. We started Music classes once a week back in September. She usually spends that time running crazy, but lately you can see/hear an increased awareness for music. After almost every song in the car, she'll ask for more. Her favorite song to sing is Happy Birthday. Actually, it's the only song she'll sing on her own. She'll chime in here or there on others songs, such as Old McDonald or A-B-Cs.
4. Wearing 2T. Weighs about 28-29lbs and is about 35inches tall. She's pretty skinny, so we prefer pants with the adjustable waistband to help keep her from doing her 'pants on da ground' impression.
5. Said 'me'. Usually she says my or mine. But the other night, as part of the routine, when pulling into the driveway, Matt asked 'who lives here'. And she answered...'daddy, mommy and ME'.
6. Stringing words together. When prompted (and
maybe twice unprompted) Grace will say...'thank you, Mommy' or 'thank you, Daddy'. The other night, I was feeding her dinner while Matt was still on his way home, and she heard him pull into the garage and said...'dada home'.
7. Consistently going on the potty when asked. I ask her every night before bath if she wants to go on the potty. And 9 times out of 10, if she says she wants to sit on the potty, she will actually go. She gets this very serious look of concentration in her eyes.
8. Very into her baby dolls right now.
9. Loved being a 'dog dog' for Halloween. She would not wear the ears for me at home while I was putting it all together. She wore her costume to school the Friday before Halloween, and I guess because of the power of peer pressure and everyone else had their costumes on, she had no issue wearing them there. Or the rest of the weekend.
10. Will not let me help her brush her teeth.
11. Learning how to put her shoes on. And take them off. I guess we've been lucky, but she doesn't really try to take her shoes, socks, clothes off yet. Strike that. She is starting to take her shoes off more frequently, and inconveniently. But for putting her shoes on, it's funny to watch. She'll line them up next to each other and then try to step into them. Usually losing her balance and toppling over. You would think it would be much easier to sit down and try to put them on, but for now, she's trying it her way.
12. Getting some more hair. Finally. And will keep a bow in for a little while.
13. Eats almost everything. I can't think of anything she won't eat. And has a great appetite.
14. Can be shy around new people and places. But usually warms up pretty quickly. Except the Presbyterian Church nursery. I thought this was going to be our week. I prayed the whole way there some of the kids from her music class would be there to welcome her. But when we went to sign her in, we were surprised to see Ryan from every day school was signed in right before Grace. However, when we went to the class, he wasn't there, but two girls from music class were. Drop off was tough, but we walked away. And after about 10-15 minutes, I relaxed thinking if we haven't been paged by now, we're good to go. When we went to pick her up after the service, she was hysterical. The gasping for breath type crying. They said they wanted to page us, but Matt wrote down his name on the sign in sheet instead of Grace's so they didn't know which person to page. Doh - seems like a simple process of elimination to me, but whatever. And it turns out, Ryan went to the wrong class. Double Doh. We need to keep trying....and Ryan's parents promised he'll be there next time. Except next week. And we'll be gone for Thanksgiving..... so maybe after that......sigh.....
15. Knows her Daddy's name is Matt and will yell after him if she hears me call his name.
16. Refers to most animals by the sound they make. A cow is a moo. A pig is an oink. A horse is a neigh. We're working on the difference between their names and their sound.
17. As part of bedtime routine, gives Mommy and Daddy hugs, kisses and Eskimo kisses. Every night.
18. Isn't signing as much as she used to. Sometimes if I ask her to say please she'll do the sign for please. But most others have fallen to the wayside.
19. Using a spoon and fork at both meals at home. Not sure if they use utensils at school. She's pretty good with the spoon, but needs some practice with the fork.
20. Currently, predominantly left handed. Neither Matt nor I are left handed. But she tends to use hers the most right now.
21. Copys Matt.... a lot. Especially at the table. If on the weekend, he is eating breakfast with her and reading the paper, she'll ask for a book so she can read too. If he takes a drink, she takes a drink. If he takes a bite of something, she takes a bite of something. It's pretty funny to watch.
22. Has discovered buses and trucks. And points them out wherever we go.
Wow. 22 things. And it wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be. Lots of things going on these days with Miss Grace.
