Chalk
Grace had so much fun today playing with chalk. Wish we had thought to put it in the air shipment, or even on the plane with us....

Un Baguette
We made Sausage and Peppers for dinner Wednesday night and needed some bread to mop up the sauce. So we did a 5 minute walk down the Patisserie for our un baguette.
We love this recipe. Turkey Sausage and Peppers. We will be hard pressed to find anything turkey over here, but peppers are super, super, cheap. All peppers, all colors are 1.75 Euros/kg. I bought 4 nice size yellow peppers for 1.01 Euros. That is about $1.50. Unheard of in the USA! Me thinks we'll be eating lots of stuffed peppers, too. Mmmmmm.

Audrey Practicing her Moves
Trying to roll over - we're not quite there yet, but she is trying really hard.
Sitting up - not completely unassisted, but she can sit in the tripod position for a few seconds on her own. Can't wait for the Bumbo to get here. I think she's going to like it. Also good shot of her 'strawberry' on her wrist.
Tummy Time - not a fan! Can also see the small 'strawberry' on her cheek.
Her sunshine rattle - she loves to grab this thing! And then shake it and hit herself in the head. And then the party is over.
DONE!

Ahoy Mateys!
We took a little walk down this cobblestone lane
Over a little bridge....where there were some swans, ducks and baby ducks.
And there it was......
I swear, we really were in Brussels!

This really is starting to look like a fairy tale, isn't it?

Swan Lake
Not sure what the real name of our lake is, but we now call it Swan Lake, for obvious reasons.
The girls and I walked down yesterday afternoon after naps. It takes about 15-20 min to walk to it; it's down hill a little bit, so it's a fairly easy walk, even pushing about 80 lbs between the two girls and the stroller itself.
We also walked around the entire lake. It's not that big. Quite a few people were out enjoying the nice sunny day with picnics, mini-golf (next to the Alpine looking building - it's a restaurant!), walking, and using the paddle boats on the lake.
And then we walked home. Not so easy going uphill as downhill, but it was a good amount of exercise!

Playing tourist - Part 2
After the Palace, we took the bus down to the Grand Place.
If you look closely in the picture above, those tiny little red and green umbrellas in the top right of the square...that is where we ate lunch, La Rose Blanche:
Notable that I have eaten a meal every time I've been to Brussels at La Rose Blanche. Twice in 2003 (do you remember, Katie?), once in February this year, and today. We must like this place!
After lunch, we strolled around and located the Manneken Pis:

What is really funny to me about this guy is that when we were in Atlanta, we went to 5 Seasons with some friends, and they have a replica on their patio. We told Grace we would see the real one in Brussels. Over the last couple of weeks, she has seen pictures of this guy and she keeps telling us that she's going to see him in Brussels. Well today she saw him. And she was less then impressed.

During the summer, the Palace is open for free. We drove down; about 15-20 minute drive from our house.
This was my favorite room. The green ceiling and chandelier is from the iridescent wings of the Japanese beetle. Isn't that so cool?
And they had a little children's area where the kids could build things. Here is our little Bob the Builder:
And a rare Matt and Liz photo. I really need to figure out how to take self-portraits better!

The Park
The girls and I walked to the park this morning. It's a beautiful sunny day in Brussels. Quite breezy, but nice and warm in the sunshine.
Here are some videos from the park.
There was a little french speaking girl at the park, too. It's kind of sad seeing Grace trying to talk to little children and they don't understand her and she doesn't understand them. But soon enough! We've been doing our French lessons every day, courtesy of Little Pim: http://www.littlepim.com/. We have the first 3 DVDs in the French series. We've only watched the first one, 'Eating and Drinking'. It's helping Mommy and Daddy learn French, too.
Once we learn French, we can move onto the German set that Aunt Katie gave Grace.

Our Humble Abode
So I've had a few requests for pictures of the house. I have been hesitant to post any because it is so scarcely furnished, and kind of messy since we don't have any where to put anything! Our air shipment is suppose to arrive in country TODAY. But who knows how long to clear customs. And although I really want our stuff, until our sea shipment arrives, this place will really be a mess with even more stuff with no more to put it - most of what you see now, came on the plane with us, the rest is either rented, or we've bought.....sigh....
So pardon our mess, as I give you a partial tour.
The Kitchen

That amazing stove/oven!
Our quite large refrigerator by European standards. It isn't a problem for us so far. But food over here doesn't have preservatives in it, so we have to go to the store more often anyway.
TV Room
2 couches, an end table, TV, TV stand, and coffee table. Where we spend most of our time.
Living Room/Dining Room/Office
Kitchen/Dining Table, also serves as a desk, and a catchall for things that have no home at the moment. High chair.....hopefully we won't have temporary furniture as long as it will take to need this!
Fireplace mantle is storage for things that need to be out of reach for little hands.
